Macedonian Planned Activity Group (PAG)
Aimed at promoting healthy ageing and to limit social isolation that can often happen when a person becomes older, the Planned Activity Group (PAGs) programs are ethno specific, allowing to maintain one’s culture and to socialise with people who speak the same language and understand the same culture and traditions. Spectrum MRC is funded by the Department of Health to operate culturally specific Planned Activity and Social Support programs. Weekly activities include art and craft, cooking, English classes, singing, gardening and recreational activities around Melbourne. Programs currently offered cater for the African, Assyrian-Chaldean, Chinese, Italian, Macedonian, Polish and Punjabi communities.

The PAG is a great way for the ageing population to share the wealth of knowledge of a different time and place. But it’s also an important way for them to feel part of the community, to feel appreciated in a warm and welcoming environment, with activities that are culturally appropriate and that boost their self esteem, without taking them out of their comfort zone. All PAG activities are ethnic specific, because the program recognises the importance, especially for the elderly, to have someone who knows how to talk, how to greet, according to their tradition.
