Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre is a non-profit organisation with 25 years experience providing services and support to migrants and refugees.

Our Aged & Disability Team deliver a range of community and in-home programs including home and personal care, respite services, planned activity groups and social support programs.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced program leader to manage our award winning day respite program based in Preston. In 2008 the program won the Victorian Multicultural Award for Excellence in recognition of our unique service model that meets the specific needs of migrant elders and their families (including dementia).

The program has been established to support working carers to remain in the workplace, using a PAG model for migrant elders with language and cultural matching of workers. It operates 7 days per week from 8.30am to 5.00pm, including transport. We currently support 4 CALD groups (Macedonian, Chinese, Vietnamese and Italian) and the program includes cultural activities and authentic ehtnic food.

We're looking for someone who:

  • is passionate and experienced working with elders
  • is flexible and able to respond to client and program needs
  • can motivate, develop and build a strong team
  • is creative, looks outside the square and is willing to trial new programs and initiatives
  • has a genuine interest in working with migrant families and an understanding of the issues facing older migrants accessing services

Requirements

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination of aged care and respite programs
  • Ability to lead, supervise and support staff and proven experience building a client focused team
  • Highly organized and able to juggle competing demands and meet administrative, accountability and reporting requirements on time and within budget
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain networks and lead and influence others in order to achieve program goals
  • Proficient in use of MS office (email, internet, word, excel)
  • Experience, empathy and understanding of the needs of older people from migrant and refugee backgrounds and their families
  • Demonstrated capacity to innovate and be creative in meeting the needs of carers and older migrants
  • A current drivers license and access to a fully maintained vehicle

Other Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Past experience using client software
