The Refugee Action Program (RAP) is an initiative of the Victorian Multicultural Commission and a collaborative project covering LGAs across the northern metropolitan region of Melbourne. The RAP is based on an innovative community development model which aims to identify local solutions to address local issues. Working in partnership with local service providers and refugee communities in the north, the RAP will provide ongoing opportunities to identify critical settlement and integration issues at a local level. Spectrum MRC has been nominated as a provider under this extension to the Refugee Brokerage Program and will provide operational supervision and support to the RAP Co-ordinator.

The Coordinator will work closely with local service providers and refugee community partners to develop and implement collaborative and sustainable responses to local settlement issues in line with an Approved Work Plan. This is an exciting and important partnership program between local service providers and refugee communities that can make a longer lasting impact on the settlement and integration of refugees in the North.

Requirements

Essential

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in Community Development/Social Sciences or a relevant discipline
  2. Demonstrated capacity to develop and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  3. Demonstrated experience working with CALD communities and a highly developed understanding of the settlement and integration issues facing refugee communities.
  4. Demonstrated experience in establishing community engagement projects
  5. Well developed project management skills.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  7. Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs
  8. A current drivers license and access to own vehicle during work hours
  9. Demonstrated positive values of integrity, accountability, reliability, working as part of a team consistent with the requirements of the contract and Spectrum.

Other Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience

10. Ability to speak a second language will be highly regarded

11. Links with refugee communities within the Northern Region and a knowledge of local settlement issues.
