Here's a wonderful opportunity to join a brand new service that will help separating families to achieve workable parenting arrangements outside the court system by providing information, support, referral and dispute resolution services in culturally appropriate ways. This role will be the cross-cultural specialist working on more complex cases, supporting bi-lingual mediators and resourcing other practitioners within the centre to ensure that case practices are culturally appropriate. | Requirements |
Qualifications
- Social Work Degree/Counselling/Psychology Degree/Social Science Degree/ Certificate of Trauma Psychotherapy or equivalent to any in this range
- Certificate 1V in workplace training/or preparedness to undertake training
- Qualifications in family dispute resolution/or preparedness to undertake accredited mediation training
- Achieve a satisfactory Working With Children Check Card
Knowledge
- To be culturally competent with an understanding of the operation of cultural norms and values among diverse populations, in family functioning, family relationships, child rearing practices, property division practices, cross-cultural issues, intergenerational issues, multiparty mediation, in intervention design and how will effect views of the Australian system and use/non use/rejection of its systems throughout the resolution process
- An understanding of family violence and its effect on members of the family group, particularly children
- Extensive casework experience with newly arrived and migrant groups
- Ability to undertake complex casework
- Strong group work skills and demonstrated experience in undertaking ethnic community development projects
- To be self-aware and recognise the impact of one’s own culturally driven assumptions and value biases upon the clients
Skills
- Team leadership skills and ability to work in a multi disciplinary setting
- High level interpersonal and communication skills
- Well developed oral and written communication skills
- Public speaking and training & facilitation skills
- Ability to work with interpreters and in co facilitation arrangements with kith, kin and other nominated arrangements by the client
- Extensive demonstrated experience in service co-ordination and service development with particular understanding in the design and delivery of services to migrant groups
- Demonstrated experience and strong commitment to client casework and coordination with culturally diverse clients;
- Strong advocacy skills with culturally and linguistically diverse client groups especially clients from humanitarian and refugee backgrounds;
- Familiarity with MS office applications
- Demonstrated positive values of integrity, accountability, reliability, working as part of a team consistent with the requirements of the contract and Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre.
Other Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Ability to speak a relevant second language will be highly regarded
- Specialised training and experience in early child hood and parenting support would be well regarded
- Possess and maintain a current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence and be able to drive MFS vehicles in the conduct of the position requirements, including the transporting of clients
