About the Role

Spectrum’s Settlement and Family Services team (SFST) provides a range of programs and services to support the smooth transition and integration of refugees and humanitarian entrants, helping them address and overcome the challenges of settling in a new country.

The SFST currently deliver the following services:

  • Casework including outreach, intake and appointments;
  • Complex Case Management;
  • Refugee Youth Subsidy for registration to sports and recreation, education & employment;
  • Ethnic Youth Council;
  • Girls’ Indoor Soccer Program;
  • School Holiday Programs;
  • Youth Leadership Programs;
  • Refugee Youth Basketball Program;
  • Men’s Family Relationship Support Program – Iraqi, Sudanese, Kurdish & Somali men’s groups; &
  • Parenting Programs targeting Congolese, Burundi, Sierra Leone and Liberian communities.

The key objectives of this position are to:

  • plan and deliver settlement services to newly arrived young migrants and refugees in the City of Hume;
  • to facilitate the support of newly arrived youth communities via innovative community development programs and partnerships in service delivery;
  • to market and promote the SMRC service as a leader in settlement services;
  • to deliver high quality immigration and general settlement casework with priority to young humanitarian refugee entrants;
  • to develop effective networks and relationships with youth services within settlement and mainstream service providers to advocate the needs of newly arrived communities.

Requirements

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Development Work or any other Human Services discipline OR an equivalent combination of extensive experience, education and expertise is essential
  • Experience working with young people and designing programs and activities that engage young people
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects that meet aims, timeframes and budgets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including skills in facilitating groups and public speaking
  • Passion for working with CALD communities and an understanding of the issues facing new migrants
  • Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • A current drivers license and access to own vehicle during work hours
  • Demonstrated positive values of integrity, accountability, reliability and working as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and with flexibility

Other Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Ability to speak a second language will be highly regarded
