The Sudanese parenting project is an initiative of Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre aiming at piloting Parenting Skills Development Courses and providing individual support to parents of Sudanese origin around Melbourne. The project is supported by the Department of Family and Community Services and Indigenous Affairs through the Responding Early Assisting Children initiative (REACh).

The project is already underway and a thorough handover will be provided to the new worker.

• An appropriate tertiary qualifications and / or relevant experience in working with newly arrived groups in particular the Sudanese community
• Extensive experience and understanding of the practices within the Sudanese culture.
• Fluency in a local language spoken by people from Sudan (Arabic and/orDinka) as well as English.
• Experience in the area of settlement and/or a related human services sector.
• Training / facilitation experience and/or Certificate IV in Workplace Training.
• Demonstrated knowledge or experience within the family services and parenting sectors.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including skills in addressing groups and public speaking.
• Passion for working with CALD communities and an understanding of the issues facing new migrants.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to enhance the team environment.
• Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs.
