Gardening across the seasons - Day 1
Cultural Connections - Gardening Across the Seasons
The project engages 9 people living with low level dementia from 3 target communities (Filipino, Macedonian and Vietnamese). Participants are supported in creating a village style community garden at Sacred Heart Presbytery in Clifton Grove Preston. Father Bill has kindly donated a section of the front garden for this project.
Students from Parade College, with Phillipino, Macedonian and Vietnamese backgrounds) collaborate with the elderly in the gardening activities, bridging social gaps between students and elderly CALD people living with Dementia, as well as raising awareness amongst young people about Dementia.
The gardening activities allow participants to reminisce and draw comfort from a familiar activity from their past. It also enhances their quality of life through increased confidence as their life experience, existing gardening knowledge and skill is valued and passed onto the younger generation.
