About the Role

Working in conjunction with the EYC, this position will provide a leadership role in the advocacy of issues for young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds residing in the northern metropolitan region.

The role will manage the provision of effective and appropriate social activities for CALD young people as well as facilitating innovative community development partnerships.

Requirements

Essential

  • Tertiary Qualification in Social Work, Community Development Work , Youth work or any other Human Services / Community Welfare discipline OR equivalent combination of extensive experience, education and expertise is essential
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the needs and issues affecting young CALD people
  • Demonstrated commitment to empowering CALD youth
  • Demonstrated policy and program development and coordination skills, including the ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with all levels of government, community organizations and the media, in order to advocate on CALD youth issues
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience in, community development processes
  • Experience in working with volunteers
  • Experience in budget management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including skills in addressing groups and public speaking
  • The capacity to work independently and unsupervised and to demonstrate initiative and high – level organizational skills
  • Sound computer skills, including experience in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and internet/email
  • A current driver’s license and access to own vehicle during work hours
  • Demonstrated positive values of integrity, accountability, reliability and working as part of a team

Other Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Ability to speak a second language will be highly regarded
  • Experience in writing funding submissions
  • Experience in being a Board Member of a community group or non-government organization
